This memory is taken from a winter morning when the mist and light were both thick. A note: I found that when there is lots of mist between mountains, and you are on the side of one mountain looking across to the next, and if I turn my head slowly from one side to another, the mist creates a sort of bird’s eye effect, and the misty slopes on the periphery crowd close in, while the center of focus falls back and away.

At dawn the whole village was covered with a cloud of rising mist. This is just half of Meishan, drawn from the fields on the north side.

This is painted from imagination. That afternoon had driven past one area where the rocks rose up like teeth of every size, and the sunlight slanted in through the pillars and trees and over the streams in the dusty colors of dusk.
